The Hamke Room

Victor Hamke

Victor Hamke

This room/building is dedicated to Moultonborough Historical Society past President 1996-1998 and 2004. Victor Hamke. Vic had dedicated the last eleven years of his life to see this entire run down house become a show place museum to present the Town's history for our community. He organized all the labor and materials, plus did much of the handy work with his own hands for the first floor and porch.

This room/building that connects the main house to the barn was his personal mission to get done. It was called affectionately the "Carriage Shed", though it's unclear if carriages were ever kept in the building. The building was falling apart and had to be torn down. Vic oversaw the tearing down of the building and the building of it's replacement to his plans and specifications. He did not quite make it to see the final touches and heating system completed, but he was advising to his last days from his bed.

For Vic's extraordinary devotion to the Society, Town and, Community we dedicate this room/building to him and his family. (9/11/2006)
